Young Warriors beat Mauritius to progress through AFCON U23 qualifiers second round

The Young Warriors are through to the second round of the AFCON U23 qualifiers after beating Mauritius 6-1 on aggregate in the first round.

Elisha Pfupa scored a first-half hat-trick as Zimbabwe secured a 4-1 victory in the second leg played in Mauritius on Tuesday.

The Young Warriors had won the first leg 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium last week.

Pfupa opened the scoring in the 14th minute before adding another five minutes later.

The Portsmouth FC U18 player completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute after the hosts had pulled one back towards the half-hour mark.

Brentford U21 forward David Chigwada scored Zimbabwe’s fourth goal to cap a dominant first half.

The second half produced no goals as the Young Warriors held on for the win and secured a 6-1 aggregate victory.

Zimbabwe will face Mali, who received a first-round bye, in the second round.
