Chelsea youngster Shim Mheuka reacts to Corbin Mthunzi’s new role in the Young Warriors team

Chelsea youngster Shim Mheuka has reacted with surprise to Corbin Mthunzi’s new role in the Zimbabwe Under-23 team.

Mthunzi was recently named the new captain of the Young Warriors ahead of their AFCON U23 qualifier against Mauritius during the recent international break.

The Ipswich Town defender captained the team in the first leg, which Zimbabwe won 2-0. He missed the return fixture in Mauritius after leaving the camp to join his club.

The 19-year-old had also been part of the senior Warriors squad for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers during the same international window, although he was an unused substitute.

Mthunzi posted a gallery from his time in camp on Instagram, and in one of the pictures, he was wearing the armband.

This prompted a reaction from Mheuka, who commented: “Skip?” – a shortened form of “skipper”.

Mthunzi responded with the 👀 emoji.

Meanwhile, Mheuka, who is currently on loan at Celtic, is eligible to represent Zimbabwe through his parents.

The young forward is currently part of the England U20 setup.
