Pitso Mosimane has delivered a quiet response to his predecessor Hugo Broos, with his first three matches in charge of Bafana Bafana doing the talking for him.
Broos had warned in August that South Africa would “go five years back in time” if Mosimane returned to the national team, arguing that his appointment could undo the progress made during his tenure.
Mosimane has so far opted to let his results on the pitch provide the response.
The 62-year-old has enjoyed a perfect start since returning to the Bafana Bafana dugout, winning all three of his matches and overseeing eight goals while conceding just two.
Bafana started the new era with a 2-1 victory over Guinea in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers before producing an emphatic 5-0 win over Eritrea on Matchday 2 of the campaign.
The biggest statement, however, came on Sunday when South Africa defeated seven-time African champions Egypt 1-0 in a friendly match at the Cairo International Stadium.
Puso Dithejane scored the decisive goal six minutes into the second half on his Bafana debut after capitalising on a mistake by Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Shobeir.
Mosimane’s first three games in charge have now produced:
3 wins
8 goals scored
1 goal conceded
2 clean sheets
The victory over Egypt also gave Mosimane a notable result in his return to the country where he enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Al Ahly.
