Bulawayo Chiefs have broken their silence on facing Scottland in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup quarter-finals amid disciplinary proceedings against the latter for allegedly fielding an ineligible player.
Scottland were charged by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for allegedly fielding Witbeen Stoffel in their Chibuku Super Cup Round of 16 match against FC Platinum at Rufaro Stadium on 14 August.
The matter has raised questions over Scottland’s participation in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, with Chiefs set to face the league champions in the quarter-finals.
Chiefs, however, said they would fulfil the fixture while making it clear that they would do so under protest.
“Bulawayo Chiefs does not seek to prejudge the outcome of the proceedings,” the club said as cited by The Sunday Mail.
“However, if the competent authority determines that Scottland fielded an ineligible player in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup match through which Scottland qualified for the next round, the consequences prescribed by the Competition Regulations necessarily become material to the identity of the teams entitled to participate in the quarter-final.
“Chiefs will fulfil the fixture as scheduled in order to comply with its match obligations. However, Chiefs will do so strictly under protest.”
